Design of fixed-ended octagonal shaped steel hollow sections in compression

In recent years, octagonal steel hollow sections (OctHSs) have attracted significant interests from researchers and engineers, OctHSs been employed in civil engineering applications. However, designs of are not included structural design codes. This paper therefore presents comprehensive numerical analyses on the stub column behaviour OctHSs. A database 46 tests reported 6 sources were collected. Different fabrication routes, grades cross-sectional slenderness covered. Finite element (FE) modelling was carried out to replicate test observations. The validated FE models subsequently adopted conduct an extensive parametric study supplement database. Existing methods North American specifications, ASCE standard, Eurocode, Australian code recently published literature thoroughly discussed evaluated.
